1. INTRODUCTION
It is the policy of Cheltenham Canoe Club (‘the Club’) that all club members and guests, Club officials, coaches, leaders, volunteers, juniors and parents/guardians show respect and understanding for each other and conduct themselves in a way that reflects the principles of the Club. The aim is for all paddlers to improve performance and have fun, in a supportive environment. Everyone involved in the Club shall abide by the Club’s policies and procedures, and this Code of Conduct includes requirements for all Club members and guests, with additional requirements for Club officials, coaches, leaders and volunteers, for parents/guardians, and for juniors.
2. CODE OF CONDUCT
2.1 All Club Members and Guests ·
Take care of all property belonging to the Club, or to Club members, and be responsible for caring for your own equipment and clothing. ·
Treat other Club members, guests and members of the public with respect at all times, on and off the water: treat others as you would wish to be treated yourself. ·
Control tempers and avoid behaviour which may affect or upset others. ·
Co-operate fully with, listen to, and respect decisions made by coaches, leaders, volunteers and Club officials. ·
When paddling, wear suitable kit for the activity, with due regard to advice from coaches, leaders, volunteers or Club officials as appropriate. ·
Do not use, or encourage the use of, prohibited substances whilst on Club premises, attending Club activities, or when representing the Club.
2.2 Club Officials, Coaches, Leaders and Volunteers
· Consider the wellbeing and safety of paddlers before the development of performance.
· Develop an appropriate working relationship with participants, based on mutual trust and respect.
· Make sure all activities are appropriate to the age, ability and experience of those taking part.
· Display consistently high standards of behaviour and appearance.
· Follow British Canoeing and Club guidelines, policies and procedures.
.Hold the appropriate, up-to-date qualifications and insurance.
· Encourage paddlers to value their performance and not just results.
· Never condone the use of prohibited substances.
2.3 Parents/Guardians
· Help your child to recognise good performance, not just results.
· Never force your child to take part in sport.
· Never punish or belittle a child for losing or making mistakes.
· Publicly accept officials’ judgements.
· Support your child’s involvement and help them to enjoy the sport.
· Use appropriate language at all times.
· Set a good example by applauding good performances of all paddlers.
· Be on time for training sessions and activities or inform the coach or organiser if you are going to be late.
2.4 Juniors
· Be on time for training sessions and activities or inform the coach or organiser if you are going to be late.
· Do not leave a session without the permission of the supervising coach or leader.
· Do not smoke, or consume alcohol or prohibited substances of any kind, whilst on Club premises, attending Club activities, or when representing the Club.
